Made up of two parts – Zsu & Paul – the nomadic feasts blog is a way to journal our travels, photos and food experiences as we travel.

In 2017 we travelled through Europe in Maddi, our self built, modest but homely van, exploring the immense and varied cuisines throughout. Currently we are travelling New Zealand in Izzy, a 1988 Isuzu Journey, with a schedule full of mountain biking, tramping and camping.

We both come from hospitality backgrounds, and equally possess a love for travel, nature, the outdoors and photography when not in the restaurant or kitchen.


Zsu finds herself very lucky to have found her path leading to hospitality. Before arriving in London she lived, worked and studied in Budapest. After finishing her drama studies, she knew she was looking for something else. London was a big change for her. She left her home to work as an au-pair in London, a way to progress her English and find her feet in another country. It was shortly that she had an opportunity to work at Kopapa (and later The Providores – which is where she crossed paths with Paul), both Peter Gordon’s London restaurants. She worked here behind the bar, learning a whole pile of new skills, all about New Zealand and it’s wines and soaked it up like a sponge – she felt right at home.

Between jobs she travelled to India for a month long yoga course, followed by a month of travelling – where she also fell in love with the country and it’s cuisine. It was on her return she had a chance to work with Stevie Parle at his Italian restaurant Rotorino, in the East End. It was here she was able to further her knowledge and complete the WSET Level 2 course – a wine and spirits course. She was stoked when they offered her a managerial role, and took it with great enthusiasm.


Paul has a love for everything to do with food and creating interesting and exciting combinations. Growing up in New Zealand, Paul has had a love for food and wine since he can remember. He has worked in many New Zealand wineries as well as the well known golfing resort in Arrowtown, Millbrook Resort. It was after a decent stint here that he decided he wanted to travel. His travels took him to both Australia and Canada for ‘working holidays’, and then through India, Nepal, Morocco, Spain and France before landing on the shores of England. Here he secured himself a chef job in London, working with Peter Gordon & Michael McGrath at their well known and ever-popular restaurant The Providores, where he spent five years, running the kitchen for three.

Finishing up five years in London, we have now decided to hit the road again and explore Europe in more depth. We will be cooking, eating and drinking our way around Europe, exploring the local products and specialties as we go and hope you enjoy the journey through our eyes, words and the cameras’ lens.
